Hey there. My name is Abujibran. I'm a politically-minded singer-songwriter based in Washington D.C. I've been writing songs off and on since age 9 and until recently, music was just a passionate hobby for me. I've made my living traveling all over the world as a journalist, filmmaker and environmentalist.

A few years ago, I got tired of waiting for the next artist to come along that really spoke to me. My inspiration comes from classic piano rockers Elton John, Billy Joel, Ben Folds, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder; political singer-songwriters like U2, The Smiths, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Green Day and Rage Against The Machine and genre-bending artists like Beck, Death Cab For Cutie, Moby, Sia, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay and Sigur Ros. So I decided instead to start speaking out instead.

Through the years, I've always gravitated towards songs of political, social and spiritual significance.  In 2014, I recorded a cover song for each year I've been alive and that project led to the October 2015 release of Coffeehouse in Hamburg, a 12-song re-interpretation of some of rock's most memorable ballads in the past quarter century.

On July 4, 2016, I released my first full-length album Lost In America. This collection of songs runs the gamut - with lyrics tackling romantic ghosts, mid-life crises, the coming climate apocalypse, happy nuclear families, long overdue love songs, the weight of suicide, America's firearms epidemic, beer-fueled bromances, deceased pets, why Jesus wasn't a Republican. With each album I write, a handful are 50-50 songs, where I donate half the online proceeds to a related charity.

I feel like I"m at the beginning of a long journey and I hope you stick around for the ride. My next projects include:

  • Writing and producing my next album - Music For The Revolution - an alterna-punk-n-funk political statement concept album designed to be a soundtrack for The Resistance.

  • Producing lyric videos / live performance videos / concept videos for "50-50 songs."

My philosophy is simple: if you’re going to write something, have something important to say. I hope my lyrics and music inspires action in you - be it on the dance floor, on the streets or on issues that matter. Time to start moving...

Best, AJ
